More relevantly, I’m an “advanced amateur”astrologer and tarot reader. No, I’m not “certified” nor have I been an apprentice. I’m self-taught through countless articles, podcasts, and workshops. I went from skeptic to enthusiast because it helped me understand my experiences and became a meaningful way to connect to people (which can be tough for a Mercury in Aquarius-type IYKYK).

I’ve read people’s charts for about 2 years. I never asked for payment. I leave that to the professionals. Still, client’s have asked how to say thanks. Cosmic Solidarity is my response. I’ll give you my practical, spiritual resources if you give your financial resources to someone who needs it.

Philosophically, I don’t actually “believe” in astrology. Tarnas defines astrology as, “a meaningful correlation between planetary movements and human experience”. To me, this is less something to believe in, and more of a call to action to create your own meaningful correlations. As above so below? Yes and, so below as above.

Your natal chart is not a fixed diagnosis. Not all Capricorn Suns are boss girl-ing themselves to the top. An empty 7th house does not mean you’ll never get married. My point is: Don’t let the memes tell you who you are. You have more power over your choices than a distant planet ever will.

For the astrology nerds reading this, I practice Hellenistic astrology and draw on the teachings of Chris Brennan, Chani Nicholas, Alice Sparkly Kat et al. I use the whole sign house system. I don’t subscribe to the Astrological Alphabet framework. Aries ≠ the 1st house. Beyond Hellenistic astrology, I’m also studying the Tarot Yohualli Ehecatl in an attempt to revive what ancient Mexica spirits might still be in my blood that could help me speak to more brujas.

A good reading is collaborative. I do some star math. We unfold the story together. ChatGPT could never.

I’ll try. When people say “I’m an Aquarius” what that means is they were born between January 19 to February 18. This the span of time when the sun is in a sign of Aquarius in the sky. It’s not just the sun! Each planet is in some sign. When someone says something like “my Mars is in Taurus”. What they mean is, “Mars was in the sign of Taurus when I was born.”

Each sign holds a special archetypal meanings that have been defined and developed for over many hundreds of generations! For example, Virgo is associated with being detail-oriented, organized, humble etc.

Each planet has it’s own meanings too! For example Venus is associated with relationships, love, harmony (you knew that!)

So in astrology 101, we combine those meanings. A Venus in Virgo might express gratitude through small thoughtful acts of service, whereas a Venus in Leo might drop a banner over the highway that says “marry me!”

Sometimes people say the planet is the verb and the sign is adverb. I fight stubbornly (Mars in Taurus). I love deeply (Venus in Scorpio). Like I said, these meanings have evolved over centuries so the permutations are vast.
